September Sunset

As we culminate our first month of school, it's hard to believe that progress reports are looming on the horizon. So far, all classes have completed and been assessed on their first writing assignments.

Poetry class students have taken their college application essays through several drafts with feedback from peers and me. Essays are heavily marked up with suggestions and questions which need to be addressed. Students need to polish these up and then schedule time with me after school for a final check.

American Literature students have taken their summer reading essays through the writing process and have had them returned. They will begin writing analysis paragraphs this week, as I will provide mini lessons on some basics elements of expository informational and analytical writing.

World Literature 10th grade students have also completed their first writing assignment and taken it through the writing process. Their pieces were personal narrative vignettes on one special memory or moment in their past. Students have been assessed and will further revise and edit these in the computer lab, where I can walk them through some basic MLA formatting expected on all their papers.

I look forward to meeting parents on Oct. 1st. at PSHS's Open House.
